Averlaine's musings

Ranting of a reality-challenged individual bent on world domination... co-operation.

Random thoughts that have coallesced into more or less cogent thoughts I thought I'd share with the class. Whether there is any interest or not is irrelevant.

Run screaming!

It is not a secret that I am prone to slip into fits of extreme misanthropy that may last mere minutes, or could turn into an outright rejection of so-called normalcy.

In short, people suck. And not in the fun way, which may actually provide the much-needed social lubricant to ease tensions in such a fraught time. Just the opposite. Whenever you imagine a person could cause disruption, it is almost as if a gauntlet were thrown down, requiring defiance. The seamy underbelly of society is less in hiding and more a challenge to misbehave. Are we so programmed to rebel that we are unable to resist the lure of colouring outside the lines for so strict an upbringing?

Whatever the case, human nature denies order, contradicting itself. Screaming into the night, howling at the moon gives humanity a sense of freedom, despite attempting to organise the world into rank and file.

But I digress. The biggest lie of the modern age isn't that conceit. Humanity is flawed, certainly, and those attempting to rule them will always face challenges, but the people themselves are my concern. Flawed, unique snowflakes, to be sure, but what function do they bring that could not better be served by automation? No genius, to be sure, but at what cost? If a tiny fraction of the population produces these insights, retaining every potential on a casual chance seems simply ludicrous.

What balance is there between order and chaos? Behaviourally, we try to distinguish ourselves with tiny acts of rebellion, stamping the world with our individuality, but really, how often you have done what everyone was expected of you to simply fit in?

If over population has gone so far as to be unsustainable for an entire planet, accidental impregnation serves nett less than zero purpose and could be considered a societal menace and the expected human drive of reproduction is, frankly, insane. If the goal is matrimony and spawning, and any who defy this are treated as outcast, give up any hopes of retaining any semblance of a future.

Of course this is coloured by views on offspring, but imagine where these views originate.

Compounding all of this is the general disregard for a logically considered outcome. So few truly understand what this even means.

Thus spake me. Today, at least.
